To all you good people who signed up to do something about the huge issue of the inaction on climate change by Australian government and financial institutions, my grateful thanks.
I’m writing today to let you know that sadly I feel unable to continue the work of monitoring all the organisations providing potential actions and alerting you about them.
Three days before my husband Warwick died last May, I turned 80. Although I largely managed to keep the actions going until the end of that year, somehow by early this year it just started to feel too hard. In the run-up to the Federal election there has been an absolute barrage of information and appeals for financial assistance from the various organisations I’ve been monitoring, interspersed with some occasional petitions, some good news, some bad – and it has become overwhelming trying to decide what best to communicate to you.
With the election looming, I probably don’t need to tell you that the Coalition’s so-called ‘Plan’ is a plan to do nothing. Labor is offering more, though still not enough. The Greens are the most ambitious, and if they formed sufficient numbers on the crossbench could potentially pressure Labor into more effective action.
Whatever the outcome of the election, the need for community action to pressure for further government commitment and action will remain.
I hope you will continue to take action in any way that you choose, as will I. Here are a few recommendations for organisations that offer good suggestions:

Thank you so much for all you’ve done over the years Robin. You started a local organisation that brought together people and local groups under the banner of climate action. There is now another local network called ‘Macquarie Alliance for Climate’ that is working in our electorate to push ALL political parties for action on climate change. Its website is macquariealliance.org and if anyone here wants to continue in a local way, this is it! Wishing you all the very best for the future Robin and gratitude to you for all you’ve done.

I remember many moons ago when I still lived in Blackheath that you were ringing around seeking someone to take over from you at ConSoc. When you rang me I was alarmed at the mere thought of taking on such an enormous task.
You’ve been magnificent. I’m just slightly younger but am reduced in what I can do despite my positive will and think I’ve sufficiently influenced my 23 year old granddaughter so that she is now able to rise up and act for the good cause.

Dear Robin,
I read your beautifully expressed email thinking that must have been a hard one to write. This morning it would seem like the best time you could have chosen to retire from this important work! This morning we can celebrate the return of common sense and truthfulness to federal government, which may ease the pressure on some of the many issues that have been going backwards at an alarming rate over the past decade. I’m optimistic that behind the modest plans revealed during the election campaign by Labor is a great deal more ambition and even excitement about harnessing Australia to the energy revolution, returning integrity to government, honouring their commitments to equality, working to see the Uluru Statement enshrined in the constitution and more. I’m optimistic we’ll see an end to internment of refugees both here and in the Pacific, soon.
Some sad choir news – Margaret Hamilton is in the terminal stage of the cancer that’s plagued her for the past 2 years. I plan to take the choir to sing to her one Wednesday in the next few weeks. Do let me know if you’d like to join us, maybe not to sing but just to be there.
