Make a donation to the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) Defence Fund and it will be doubled to help defend the future of young Australians,
We’ve told you before about the wonderful work the Environmental Defenders Office does in fighting for environmental justice. Now, for the first time, it is working to enable an Australian coal mine be challenged on human rights grounds, on behalf of young people in Australia.
Their client Youth Verdict is a group of brave young Australians who are challenging Clive Palmer’s proposed Galilee Coal Project in Queensland’s Land Court, arguing the mine will contribute to catastrophic climate change and increase the risk of bushfires, drought, floods, heatwaves and cyclones.
This case is the result of thousands of hours of legal and scientific preparation and builds on EDO’s groundbreaking work in the courts to recognise and mitigate the climate impacts of Australian fossil fuel projects.
It has so impressed one generous donor that he has offered to match all gifts to their Environmental Defence Fund – up to $250,000.
That means that any tax-deductible donation you make today will be doubled. It’s a great opportunity to support what could be a ground-breaking legal precedent for our grandchildren!
